Clean Practice

I finally bit the bullet and bought a Crossfit Journal subscription. It’s true what everyone says; the articles have great value. For example, the latest Boz and Todd experience was Todd coaching a West Point cadet on cleans. I have always sucked at cleans, but I decided to practice them today. I cannot do that full clean from the ground; it’s just too much. I want to get that high hang clean solid before I try the full one.

I did OK today. I’m still struggling with not curling the weight, but jumping underneath and getting my elbows high. I had two things going today because of the holiday: 1.) the group fitness room was free, so I could use the broomstick. 2.) The Oly platform was free as well. I was basically practicing, with weight for a good chunk of my workout, one rep with 45-65-65-65-65-70-70-70-70. Not a lot of weight, but as I said, I really want to be solid on these.

My shoulder hurts from all the kettle bell swings yesterday, so I took it sort of easy on the big, over-the-head stuff like my typical overhead squats, and pull-ups, and even handstands. I did do a WOD though, Travel WOD 3, or as I like to call it “Mindy” because it’s a lot like Cindy:

AMRAP in 20 minutes of:

-5 push-ups
-10 sit-ups
-15 air squats

My total? 16 plus 5 push-ups and 10 sit-ups. It’s not a bad little bit of metcon, actually, even though you’re not throwing around huge amounts of weight.
