Strongman Friday

So, I have a lot of updating to do, having come back at midnight last night from New York, the Level 1 Cert at Reebok Crossfit 5th Ave. I’ll get to that next time. I came in Friday at 1225 and hung out with my sister for a while, before going to Global Strongman with her to lift heavy shit. Some of the heavy shit we lifted (she kept track of weights; I didn’t):

-Log clean and press up to 100# for reps (2? I did the axle first, so this wasn’t the best)
-Axle clean and press up to 100# for reps (9! Did it first)
-Yoke carry down the gym and back, I did 275# for, like 2 trips down and back. I tried 365#, but couldn’t do it.
-Husafjell stone carry down and back, down and back
-Atlas stone

It was a lot of fun, but there is definitely a technique for a lot of it, which is not something I ever train. I haven’t done strongman in about 3 years, so it was definitely rusty.

Tires

It was a gorgeous day outside today so I flipped the tractor tire at Island for about 20 minutes and jumped through. Untimed, just for funsies.

Last Two Days

Day before yesterday did 5×3 back squats (I think):

Finished with a few untimed tire flip and jumps because the weather was so nice.

Definitely need to do some metcon tomorrow.

Flip n’ Dip

Went back to UA today. I started with my simple warm-up and I am closer than I was a month ago on getting a pull-up. Besides pull-ups, push-ups, and squats for a warm-up, I also like to do inversions to pike on the rings, which is good for core strength, grip strength, and hamstring flexibility.

I went on to do a so-so front squat 5×5:

75×5
85×5
95×5
95×5

It was OK, not great. I finished with a WoD of my own design which is three rounds for time of:

-18 tire flip and jump
-10 ring dips

I use the smallest tire for the time being and jump into the middle and back out the other side, so for each flip there are two jumps. I used the blue band for the ring dips and barely got through them. All told, 16:03.

Oly class tomorrow at noon; hopefully I can attend.

Getting back into the groove

Got good numbers on a 3x back squat today, for the first time in a while:

Interspersed with some ring dips. My globo finally knuckled under to pressure from a bunch of us and bought rings. They’re plastic with a rubber grippy thing, which is actually rather comfortable, but they are a little springier than I’m used to. We have them tangled into the squat cage and only, like, four of us use them. Everyone else uses the stupid TRX bands. It was a very nice day, so I did 50 flip n’ jumps for time with the tire, getting 12:34, 13 seconds slower than last time. Eh, it’s OK; I did it less than a month ago. It felt good. I feel good. More fun tomorrow.

Back in the Gym

Just because I haven’t posted in five days does not mean that I have been idle. Strongman took it out of me, so I’ve been taking it fairly easy, at least last week, with easy hikes around the area. But I came back on Saturday, and did a very nice press set at

I finished with 50 tire flip n’ jumps for time, getting 12:21.

Back today for…whatever. I ran into my Crossfit friends, and we decided to do the Marcus together, which is 100 box jumps and 100 air squats for time. I thought I would do badly at this, but I ended up PRing at 8:31. This isn’t much better than my first time, but I’m not great at box jumps, so any bit is a good thing. Finished up with a fast one-mile run at 7:24. Not too shabby with fried quads.

Lately

I’ve been meaning to update, but have been out of the habit lately. I’ve been trying to get into Crossfit more, but my metcon has been really lousy and I need to start doing it habitually also. Here’s what I’ve been doing lately.

10! 30# DB snatch and push-up: 8:05 (sucks…last time was 7:07)

Time: 7:21, well under half what I get for this WOD as Rx’d. As Rx’d is miserable and I hate it. I suppose I’ll eventually have to work back up into it, but I’m not looking forward to it at all.

If I just go up by 20#, it’s not all that bad. I can do it, and that’s what I tell myself. Finished off with 100 un-timed tire flips.
