I’ve been sick on and off for about two months now, which is something that happens to me, I find, more frequently as I get older. I get a cold that just won’t go away. So now I’m on antibiotics for the third time in a year, antibiotics that I don’t actually need, but take because 1.) I enjoy the gastrointestinal side effects, 2.) I enjoy the genitourinary side effects and 3.) it gets my husband off my back. But I cough and cough and cough, and it’s not a chest thing because I have decent lung capacity still. I have no idea what’s wrong. In any case, I probably shouldn’t have gone in Wednesday, both to CFP, and subsequently to work BUT I did PR my OHS:

I made that last jump because Eamon said that I should and it actually wasn’t all that bad. Triple digits in OHS for the first time ever, FTW.

Finished with a fairly lousy metcon that I’m going to chalk up to being sick, AMRAP 5 minutes:

-5 OHS at 75% (80#)
-25 DU

I did it Rx’d and got 2 rounds, 2 reps. Then, I went home and desperately wanted to call in to work, but by then it was too late. I suffered through my 12 hours, went home, went to bed, got up, went to the store, then came home and laid in bed for the rest of the day. I haven’t had a break like that since Katrina was born two years ago. I slept some, got up, cooked the salmon that I bought, watched Game of Thrones, took 50mg Benadryl and was down for the count. No WoD today. No WoD tomorrow either. My husband has told me no, and I can’t find a sitter anyway, so for the second time in two months, I have four days of no Crossfit. I just hope that I feel better soon.

Worth it!

Three days worth of posting, so here we go: Saturday was Isabel, 30 snatches for time. I got 5:56 at 75 pounds. There were some good ones in there, but by rep 25, it was a muscle snatch. Oh well. Cashed out with 3 minutes of lateral bar hop burpees, in which I got 26. I just couldn’t move my feet. Period.

Yesterday started with a 2RM press, which was:

I was hoping for triple digits, which I got, so that was good. It was followed by four rounds for time of:

-10 push press (95#/65#)
-10 lunge with front rack (95#/65#, 5 each side, thank goodness)
-10 lateral bar hops (over and back is one)

I got it in 6:42 Rx’d, but the lateral bar hops, really any lateral hopping anything are my kryptonite. And now my butt hurts a lot so I was thinking everything would be fine as long as we didn’t have a WoD today with pistols…OH WAIT.

Today was kipping practice, followed by AMRAP 12 minutes of:

-20 KB swings (24kg/16kg)
-16 sit-ups
-12 pistols (6 each side)
-8 pull-ups

I got four rounds even with the only scale negative pistols. But I am SO close on the right. Not in a WoD, but still. I Rx’d the pull-ups and got up to three in a row in the first and second round, which is good. I over-think these in practice, like the rope climb. I never practice the rope climb before I go up, because in a WoD, I don’t think about it, I just do it. Same thing today. I got the eighth pull-up with 2 seconds to go, which was great…and then I saw that I tore the palm of my right hand. Still worth it, but it stings like crazy. I’ll glue it at work tomorrow.

OHS infinity ladder

Today was infinity ladder AMRAP 15 minutes of:

-5 TTB
-5 OHS (95#/65#)
-200m run (250m row)
-10 TTB
-10 OHS
-200m run

I got to just under 20 with about 180m left in the row. I was slowing down slightly on the TTB but only got to 1-at-a-time on 17, 18, 19, and 20, so that’s good. I was getting runs of 8-10 on the OHS even on the last round, so it was a good WoD.

Yesterday was 1RM DL in 10 minutes, which was:

That last was disappointing because I was really hoping to meet my PR, but it wasn’t met to be. Finished with Helen, which was 3 RFT:

-400m run (500m row)
-21 KB swings (24/16kg)
-12 pull-ups

14-minute time cap

This ended up being a complete cluster. I knew the pull-ups were going to get me, and they did, but I could get two at a time, which, well, as bad as my Helen ended up being (16:?? I went above the time cap, I know that much), the fact is that I could not kip at all back in March, when I started going to CFP full time. I made the mistake of switching to the green band on round two, but I regretted it, because it ended up being equally slow as the kipping pull-ups because you have to basically do them strict. I also am really resistant to going to bands because WoDs are pretty much the only chance I get to practice kipping pull-ups, even though I get slowed down by any WoD with pull-ups.

Today went better. We did seven minutes of burpees, and I got 87, which is a PR by 3. I did the first 63 unbroken too, so that was good. Then was exactly 5 minutes rest, then 10 minutes to establish a 1RM C&J, which I managed, although I regret not loading my bar and changing my shoes faster, because I didn’t pull my first set until about a minute and a half in, and I believe I could have gone heavier. Maybe. Anyway:

The last is most definitely a PR, and I’m starting to gain my confidence with both the clean and the split jerk.

No Metcon

Posted in front squats on June 18, 2013 by coughingsparks

Yesterday was a 2RM front squat, which meets a 3RM front squat from March 2012, and a 2RM from November of 2012, then backing off to 95% and 90%:

I hope I start adding weight at some point. Missed the metcon because I had to go to work, which I know is a cardinal Crossfit sin, but nothing I could do.

Grace PR

Posted in grace on June 15, 2013 by coughingsparks

Today was Grace, which I did legitimately this time, i.e., with push jerk instead of push press (well…except reps 26, 27, and 28 or so), 30 C&J for time of 3:57, which is exactly 30 seconds faster than last time an definitely a PR. Go me!

Partner WoD

Posted in box jumps, burpees, dips, rope, running on June 14, 2013 by coughingsparks

Today was a partner WoD where only one person could work at a time:

-100 box jump-overs
-50 ring dips (negatives)
-100 KB swings 16kg
-10 rope climbs
-50 burpees each alternating
-10 100′ sprint

My partner’s name was Adam and had never done Crossfit before, but clearly he had some sort of sport background, because he cleared the box without jumping on it (unlike me) and climbed the rope with no problem. We did pretty well at 25:36 and altogether, it was a fun WoD.
