Albany

Yesterday was a bit frustrating in terms of scheduling and I know I’ve complained about this before, but something’s gotta give and it’s mostly my fault for managing my time badly. On mornings I work and try and get to the gym, I have to take Katrina so my husband gets to run errands etc. before having to watch her for, like, 13 hours straight, so I have to change her, pack her into her snowsuit if it’s cold, pack her into her car seat, drive to the gym, park(kinda far away), unpack her, check her in at the front desk, take her to the daycare, unbundle her from her snowsuit, and sign her in. After my workout, I do everything but in reverse, change her diaper, pack her back up, etc., etc., etc. The point is, I often spend more time getting her and myself to the gym and back than actually working out, and that’s just not working.

Anyway, so I was running late yesterday, so I only had about 15 minutes to work out when all was said and done, so I did a scaled version of a Crossfit Albany workout, which is three rounds for time of:

-10 C&J 135/95
-50 ABMAT sit-ups (I did regular)

All with a 15-minute cap. I did it in 11:45, but I wouldn’t have made it, probably, if I had been doing ABMAT sit-ups. I really like this WoD. I certainly will do it as Rx’d at some point.

In the meantime, although I hate to do it after going to bed at 0030 on most days I work, is get up earlier, like 0645. Maybe that would help.

DL/Triplet Hell/Swimming Class

Today was a double header for me, gym-wise. I started out with a morning workout with a 5×3+20 DL, so-so:

155×3
175×3
195×3
215×3
225×3
155×20

Although I didn’t do as well as last time, I really like the +20. It’s hard! I finished with a mash-up of two other WoDs that I will call triplet hell, which is three rounds for time (when I have more time, I’ll probably make it 5) of:

-5 Thrusters 65#
-7 HPC 65#
-10 SDLHP 65#
-30 DU

I did it in 9:24.

My second foray to the gym was for an hour-long swimming class, and it’s a good thing I went because, as stated in the last post about swimming, I don’t know what I’m doing. So, it was a really nice, low-key sort of set of drills. Mostly, I just need to get in the water and be comfortable there. That’s all. And do more long-distance stuff. The swim in August is 750 meters, which is 16.4 there-and-back laps in the pool at Island. So that’s a good thing to shoot for.

Now I am freezing, starving, and exhausted. But in a good way. Also, this would be a great time to razor down my calluses.

Little OHS/KB Swing/Sit-up

I didn’t have a ton of time yesterday, so I did a 3×5+20 OHS at:

45×5
65×5
75×5
75×5
45×20

My lower back is really tight right now and I should probably see the chiropractor because it’s starting to affect my lifts. I finished with one from CFNYC about a week ago now, I guess, five rounds for time of AMRepsAP:

-1 minute KB swings (55#/35#)
-1 minute sit-ups
-1 minute rest

I got 30/32, 30/31, 30/30, 31/30, 30/30 for 151/153 = 304. Once I got over 30 on both, I vowed not to go below 30 at all. It was like a mini-Hansen without the burpees. These also are two exercises I’m reasonably good at so, if the comments on CFNYC’s blog post are any indication, I did a pretty good job.

Breaking news also: I get to go to a swimming clinic tomorrow evening! I knew it was happening but I didn’t know if I’d be able to go because Jeff is out of town, but I can, so there may be hope for my swimmming suckitude.

12.1 Revisited and Swimming

Yesterday, I had a somewhat OK back squat:

The last one had two good reps and one that didn’t break the plane. So I can’t really count it. I went on to revisit 12.1, which is AMRepsAP in 7 minutes of burpees and I got 78, which is one more than last time. That’s sort of sucky but I think my strategy wasn’t very good. I was going for 12 each minute but I think it was a waste of time on the first minute and maybe I could have done more. IDK.

Today I finally swam in the swimming pool. The people were nice and accommodating, but I suck. And swimming is really, really hard. I need a coach is what. There are actual classes down there so I should start doing that when I can. When my mother-in-law gets back to town in a couple of weeks for the summer, it’s going to get easier to fit in training sessions as she can usually watch the baby at the drop of a hat, for hours. 😀

So anyway, I farted around for about half an hour, kicking up and down and doing some half-assed different strokes that I randomly remember from a long time ago. The breathing thing is the hardest. Yeah, I’m going to need a helper.

Stupid Shoes

Boy was today a frustrating day. I went to the gym this morning with the best of intentions to get my butt into the swimming pool and…do something. Anything. Unfortunately, the pool was closed because the power went out the other day (at my house also) and when it came back on it caused a power surge that apparently destroyed something fancy and electronic that makes the pool work. Um, it’s a cement hole with water in it. It’s not that complicated. Whatever, the pool was closed and I didn’t have a Plan B. Luckily for me, I was wearing workout clothes because that’s what I put on this morning, but then I put on Crocs thinking I was going to go swimming anyway. So, I had 1.) No socks, 2.) No deodorant (yuk), 3.) No music and, most importantly 4.) stupid, stupid shoes.

But I had to do something because myself and my baby were now both at the gym. So, I did my best in my stupid shoes. I did 5×3 press:

75×3
85×3
90×3
95×3

I was sort of slipping all over the place and couldn’t figure out what to do, so I did Death by Thrusters, which is one thruster the first minute, two the second minute, etc., with 65# and got ten rounds which is exactly what I got back in December. I suck. My shoes suck.

FS/Lone Wolf Team WoD/DL/OHS/DU

I have to update for two days again today. Yesterday, I did a sort of lousy front squat with very tight hamstrings (I don’t know what it is about the Filthy Fifty–the lunges? The back extensions?):

I just wasn’t feeling it. Finished with a lone wolf edition of CFNYC’s team WoD, AMRAP in 20 minutes of:

-3 Pull-ups
-6 KTE (hanging leg curls)
-12 Goblet squats 55#/35#
-18 Flutter kicks

I did seven rounds even, but the team WoD part was that one person did the round while the other held a barbell. Apparently, that’s the hardest part, according to the comments. So, I sort of missed out there.

Today, I did a 5-5-5-5-15-12-9 DL:

45×5
135×5
155×5
175×5
195×5
215×5
135×15
135×12
135×9

I probably should have done 155 for the long sets, but I wasn’t sure what that was going to be like. Finished with the CFNYC WoD from a couple of days ago, AMRAP in 8 minutes of:

-30 DU
-10 OHS (115#/75#, I used 45#, I know, I know…)

Did three rounds, 25 DU. My legs were D-E-D dead from the DL and I was wearing running shoes for the double unders, which suck for OHS. I’d like to do this WoD on a day when I don’t do anything else, or maybe do presses or something. I should have gone to 65#, probably.

Stupid shoes. Stupid legs.

OHS, Half Triplet

My hamstrings are still very sore from Filthy Fifty on Saturday, so I did 3s OHS:

80×3

Finished up with half of a triplet of pain, but heavier, AMRAP in 10 minutes of:

-5 Thrusters
-7 HPC
-10 SDLHP

All with 75#. Got 4 rounds, 5 thrusters, 7 HPC. Not too bad.
