Today no better

I am in a serious funk lately. Did five sets of five overhead squats and just did 75 straight across the board, which is pretty sad, then three sets of five back squats with no more than 135 pounds. I don’t know what’s been wrong with me lately…

I feel like crap

Posted in Travel 30 with tags on August 30, 2009 by coughingsparks

I wish today was my rest day. I didn’t get enough sleep last night. I went to bed at around five, couldn’t fall asleep very well and woke up at 11. We went to the State Fair, which I wasn’t really in the mood for and it poured down rain so we left after a couple of hours. I had pulled pork there, slaw and beans with a diet Coke, which wasn’t the best thing ever, diet-wise. I felt vaguely nauseous on the way home, but knew I had to do something for a WOD, so I did Travel WOD 30, which is, for time, three rounds of

-100 single unders
-50 air squats

I did it in 8:53 which is about 45 seconds SLOWER than last time. My piece of crap jump rope kept catching on the ground and twisting up. When I was done, I really felt horrible, and I still feel horrible now.

New 2K Row PR

Today’s prescription was supposed to be an endurance WOD with running and bear complex, really long, and I didn’t have time and it was raining out, so I did the following day’s prescription, which was 2K row test and either 20 consecutive double unders, 40 consecutive double unders or 100 singles. For the row, I PR’d at 8:01, 18 seconds faster than last time. I am a little disappointed not to go under eight minutes but whatever; it’s a huge improvement. For the 100 singles, I did it in 43 seconds. I can’t wait for my new jump rope to get here so I can master double unders.

Grace: Way Too Light

Posted in grace with tags on August 27, 2009 by coughingsparks

Today’s Rx was Grace, which is 30 clean and jerks. The prescription is 135#, but the CFB site said to use 95#, 65# or a broomstick as needed. I am not super familiar with the clean and jerk, so I did 65# and made it in 3:56. Put another way, it was much too light. I don’t think I can do 95#, and I certainly can’t do the WOD as Rx’d, but still, more weight next time and practice in between. The good news is that for the first time, I did the full range of motion, from the floor to overhead. So that was good.

Heavy 3 Presses/Double Unders

Posted in double unders, presses with tags , on August 26, 2009 by coughingsparks

CFB is back! Yay! Today’s prescription was heavy 3’s of presses. My shoulder hurt a little, but I came off with 75-80-85-85-80. I failed a little on the second-to-last one, only putting it up twice, so went back down to 80. Then I went and practiced double-unders for a while. I still can’t do two in a row, although I can definitely do one. I would go 7 singles and then a double-under. I also need a better jump rope. Clea found the best jump ropes evar so I just need to get one and have done with it. My shoulder hurt a LOT after that though…

Owwwww…

I had a bad day at the gym today. I couldn’t really seem to do anything or settle on anything. I just wasn’t feeling it and to top it all off, I pulled my right trapezius on my last set of pull-ups. So now my neck hurts if I move my right arm or my head AT ALL. Good thing I don’t have to work for eight hours tonight. Oh wait, YES I DO.

Poop.

Triplet of Pain

Posted in triplet of pain with tags on August 23, 2009 by coughingsparks

Once again, I was on my own today. I e-mailed Alex to see what the deal was, so hopefully I’ll get an answer. Anyway, today I did Triplet of Pain, which is AMRAP in 20 minutes of:

-5 Thrusters
-7 Cleans
-10 SDLHP

I use 65# rather than 95 because I’m not insane. Last time I did four rounds + five thrusters, today it was five rounds, five thrusters, five cleans. Fantastic improvement and I’m happy BUT. What holds me back on this WOD is my form starts to SUCK after a while, especially on the cleans. Greg Glassman, when asked in an interview what was more important: form or speed, said “yes.” So there you go.
